Miley Cyrus is returning to celebrate the legacy of Hannah Montana with a 20th Anniversary Special, set to premiere Tuesday, March 24, on Disney+. The special marks two decades since the beloved Disney Channel series first debuted, becoming a cultural phenomenon that shaped a generation of young viewers. Filmed in front of a live studio audience, the event will feature an exclusive, in-depth interview with Cyrus, hosted by Alex Cooper.
The conversation promises an intimate look at the creation of one of pop culture’s most iconic characters and the enduring impact of the series on fans worldwide. Cyrus will reflect on the moments, music, and memories that defined the era, while viewers will get access to never-before-seen archival footage. Producers have also recreated some of the show’s most memorable sets, including the Stewart family living room and the iconic Hannah Montana closet. Additional surprises are expected throughout the special.
“Hannah Montana will always be a part of who I am,” Cyrus said in a statement. “What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans. The fact that it still means so much to people all these years later is something I’m very proud of. This ‘Hannahversary’ is my way of celebrating and thanking the fans who’ve stood by me for 20 years.”
Originally launched in 2006, the Emmy-nominated series became a global success, influencing kids’ television, music, and fashion. The franchise produced multiple platinum and gold-certified albums and expanded into feature films, including Hannah Montana: The Movie and Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert. Ayo Davis, President of Disney Branded Television, described the special as a tribute to the show’s devoted fanbase.
“Hannah Montana opened the door for so many fans to dream big, sing loud, and embrace every side of themselves,” Davis said. “Partnering with Miley on this special is a dream, and we want it to be a love letter to the fans.”
The anniversary special is produced by HopeTown Entertainment and Unwell Productions. Ashley Edens serves as showrunner, with Cyrus, Tish Cyrus-Purcell, Cooper, and Matt Kaplan attached as executive producers. Ahead of the premiere, fans can revisit all four seasons of Hannah Montana and related films through a dedicated collection on Disney+. Beginning February 19, the platform will also launch a non-stop stream featuring the full series catalog. According to Disney, the Hannah Montana library has surpassed half a billion hours streamed globally, underscoring the franchise’s enduring popularity nearly 20 years after its debut.
