Cate Blanchett & Selena Gomez Join Brady Corbet Epic

Hollywood is already buzzing over director Brady Corbet’s next ambitious project after reports confirmed that Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett and global pop icon Selena Gomez will star alongside Michael Fassbender in Corbet’s upcoming mystery epic. The untitled film is being described as one of the most daring projects currently developing in Hollywood, with Corbet previously hinting that the movie would carry an “X-rated” tone and push creative boundaries in both storytelling and filmmaking style.

The announcement came during the Cannes Film Festival, where Blanchett casually revealed during a masterclass that she was preparing to collaborate with Corbet on his next feature. Industry reports later confirmed that Gomez and Fassbender had also officially joined the cast, instantly making the film one of the most talked-about upcoming productions in cinema circles.

Although the official title and complete plot remain secret, Corbet has shared small details in recent interviews that have fueled curiosity online. According to the filmmaker, the movie spans multiple eras, stretching from the 19th century to modern times, though much of the narrative reportedly centers around the 1970s. Corbet has described the film as “genre-defying,” suggesting audiences should expect a blend of styles rather than a traditional drama or thriller.

Another detail attracting attention is the film’s unusual technical production. Reports say Corbet plans to shoot the project using rare eight-perf 65mm cameras, a format known for producing incredibly detailed and cinematic visuals. The choice signals that the movie could become another visually grand experience similar to the ambitious scale seen in Corbet’s previous work. Film enthusiasts have already begun comparing the project’s scope to classic epic dramas from the 1970s and 1980s.

The screenplay itself is also reportedly massive. During an appearance at the Storyhouse Screenwriting Festival in Dublin, Corbet revealed the script runs nearly 200 pages long. That revelation shocked many movie fans because his last film, The Brutalist, had a 165-page script and still resulted in a runtime exceeding three and a half hours. The new film may therefore become an even longer and more expansive cinematic experience.

For Blanchett, the role continues a legendary career filled with collaborations alongside some of cinema’s most respected directors, including Martin Scorsese, David Fincher, Guillermo del Toro and Wes Anderson. Blanchett remains one of the most critically acclaimed actresses of her generation, having won Academy Awards for The Aviator and Blue Jasmine. She recently starred in Father Mother Sister Brother directed by Jim Jarmusch, which gained major recognition at the Venice Film Festival.

For Gomez, the casting marks another major step in her dramatic acting career. While millions worldwide first knew her from Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place, Gomez has spent recent years earning critical praise for more mature performances. Her role in Spring Breakers first showed audiences a darker side of her acting abilities, while her acclaimed performance in Emilia Pérez further elevated her reputation in the film industry. Gomez also continues to star in Hulu’s hit comedy mystery series Only Murders in the Building, which has become one of streaming television’s biggest successes.

Meanwhile, Fassbender’s involvement adds even more prestige to the project. Known for intense performances in films like Shame, Steve Jobs and the X-Men: First Class franchise, Fassbender is widely respected for taking on challenging and psychologically layered characters. Many fans believe his acting style fits perfectly with Corbet’s emotionally heavy filmmaking approach.

The project will reportedly be produced by Andrew Morrison under the Kaplan Morrison production banner. It will become Corbet’s fourth feature film following The Childhood of a Leader, Vox Lux and The Brutalist. Corbet has built a reputation for creating bold, unconventional films that often divide audiences while earning strong praise from critics and film festivals.

Even without an official title or release date, the combination of Blanchett, Gomez, Fassbender and Corbet has already created enormous anticipation online. Social media discussions exploded shortly after the news surfaced, with many fans especially intrigued by the unexpected pairing of Blanchett and Gomez in what could become one of the most experimental mainstream films of the decade.

With its secretive storyline, enormous scale, vintage filmmaking techniques and powerhouse cast, Corbet’s untitled epic is quickly shaping into one of the most anticipated future releases in international cinema.
